Abstract : The coach of Poland ski jumping team Michal Dolezal said that after 2021 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Germany, "it's time to focus on preparing for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing."
WARSAW, March 11 (Xinhua) — The coach of Poland ski jumping team Michal Dolezal said that after 2021 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Germany, “it’s time to focus on preparing for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.”
The Poles won two medals in Oberstdorf as Piotr Zyla made a huge surprise to win the competition on the normal hill, while the 34-year-old and his teammates also stood on the podium in the team’s event to take bronze.
The Czech coach Dolezal claimed that the next goal for his ski jumpers is to prepare for the Winter Games in China.
“We are happy about our performances at the world championships, but we wanted to achieve even more. I don’t remember such an exciting competition as the team contest in Oberstdorf. It’s hard to describe these feelings,” Dolezal told Polish media Sportowe Fakty published Thursday.
“There will definitely be a meeting in which we will sum up the entire season. For now, we can already focus on the work before the Olympics,” he said.
According to the Czech, the best way to get good results in Beijing is to keep the momentum after the world championships. “I reminded the athletes that the season was not over yet … You have to be ready to start and stay focused, especially since there will be a four-day event on the ski flying hill in Planica, Slovenia,” the 43-year-old added.
Poland’s leader Kamil Stoch is believed to be one of the favorites to take a medal in Beijing. However, in Oberstdorf the four-time Olympic medalist didn’t meet the expectations.
“Kamil did a great job in the Four Hills tournament, then he achieved success at the World Cup, but he couldn’t find his best shape in individual championship competitions. I am glad that in the most important moment, in the team, his jumps looked much better,” Dolezal concluded. Enditem
