Abstract : A Zambian water utility firm, Mulonga Water Supply and Sanitation Company Limited (MWSC) has signed a 40 million euros contract with China Henan International Cooperation Group (CHICO) for the rehabilitation of water and sanitation facilities in Zambia.
CHINGOLA, Zambia, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) — A Zambian water utility firm, Mulonga Water Supply and Sanitation Company Limited (MWSC) has signed a 40 million euros contract with China Henan International Cooperation Group (CHICO) for the rehabilitation of water and sanitation facilities in Zambia.
The rehabilitation works will be carried out in three districts that include Chingola, Chililabombwe, and Mufulira in the Copperbelt Province.
Emmanuel Sandi, board chairperson for MWSC, said the works which were part of the ongoing Zambia water and sanitation project would help improve service provision in the three mining towns.
Sandi was speaking on Wednesday in Chingola during the signing ceremony with CHICO.
He said the works which would be done by CHICO would involve rehabilitation and expansion of eight water treatment plants and three sewer treatment facilities.
Sandi said the works would also improve the production capacity of water and wastewater treatment as well as improve water quality and quantity.
“The works would also involve the replacement of the main water trunk lines. This is the biggest project we have ever undertaken,” he said.
And Reuben Kaira, MWSC managing director, said he was happy that the utility company had finally signed the contract with a Chinese firm as it would go a long way in modernizing its equipment.
He said most funds would go towards the water to improve on the utility company’s extraction.
CHICO chief representative Zambia branch Zhou Xiaozhan said the company had been involved with Zambia’s development for a long time and would ensure that it executes the works diligently. Enditem
